Therefore, the assessment of irregular bleeding is relevant only after an adaptation period of about three cycles has passed. Spotting does not mean that you do not have contraceptive protection if you take the pills regularly and correctly. When using hormonal contraception, you are protected even with intercourse without a condom. Hormonal contraception, on the other hand, does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases - then a condom is necessary.
