Will a hormonal IUD be sufficient when it comes to treating endometriosis?

Hello, I would like to ask about the IUD. Will it perform a similar function as contraceptive pills when it comes to inhibiting the development of endometriosis? For me, this is the main goal, and I would like to reduce the risk of thrombosis and use a hormonal IUD, but I do not know if it will be enough when it comes to endometriosis. Best regards

A hormonal insert with progestin alone due to its predominantly local effects and lack of estrogen will have a favorable profile when it comes to the risk of thrombosis. Mirena does not have registered indications in the therapy of endometriosis, but is ordered to patients in this off-label condition based on experience with this type of systems: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/leczenie-off-label-poza-wskazaniami The main effect of the presence of the hormonal system in the uterus is to limit the growth of the mucous membrane (endometrium). Patients experience less heavy bleeding, they are shorter. When using the Mirena system in some women, menstrual bleeding may disappear after some time. Hence, Mirena is also used in the treatment of excessive menstrual bleeding. The IUD in the case of endometriosis will reduce ailments such as pain, it is suggested that it also reduces the inflammation that accompanies endometriosis. There are also oral tablets containing progestin itself (most often dienogest), which have - unlike the IUD - registered indications in the therapy of endometriosis. Dienogest acts on endometriosis by reducing the production of estradiol and thus inhibiting the stimulating effect of this hormone on endometrial growth. Constant use produces a hormonal environment in which estrogen deficiency with a predominance of estrogen causes atrophy (atrophy) of endometrial structures. The selection of the best preparation for your health situation and symptoms is best entrusted to a gynecologist.
