Mimo, iż Polocard to lek dostępny bez recepty, czas trwania terapii powinien być ustalony z lekarzem. Lek można przyjmować długotrwale (nawet kilka lat), jednak w przypadku pojawienia się jakichkolwiek niepożądanych objawów należy skonsultować się z lekarzem prowadzącym.
Długotrwałe przyjmowanie leku zwiększa ryzyko występowania krwawień z przewodu pokarmowego (zwłaszcza u osób cierpiących na chorobę wrzodową żołądka lub dwunastnicy czy u osób w podeszłym wieku).
