Heparyna znajduje szerokie zastosowanie lecznicze w w wielu sytuacjach klinicznych:
-żylna choroba zakrzepowo-zatorowa,
-zatorowość płucna,
Jest stosowana zapobiegawczo po operacjach kończyn dolnych oraz w okresach unieruchomienia.
Przy przeszczepach narządowych, zabiegach u chorych na trombofilię.
Również przypadku ciąży u pacjentek zagrożonych rozwojem zakrzepicy. Heparyna w ciąży może być stosowana tylko pod nadzorem lekarza i tylko wtedy, gdy jej przyjmowanie jest konieczne, a korzyści ze stosowania heparyny są większe niż ryzyko poronienia.
