Can the deterioration of kidney function be due to an increase in the dose of Ramipril?

For the last 3 months, my mother has been taking 10 mg of ramipril (previously taking 5 mg). After blood tests, it turned out that the creatinine level increased 2 times and the gfr indicator fell drastically. Could such disastrous results indicating kidney problems be the result of an increase in the dose of ramipril? If so, is there a chance to improve kidney function after returning to 5 mg?

Increasing the dose of Ramipril may increase the risk of side effects. One of the uncommonly reported side effects is obtaining test results indicating changes in renal, hepatic or pancreatic function. The risk of deterioration of kidney function is greater when starting to use the drug, as well as after increasing the dose: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/65930/ramipril-actavis-tabletki/ulotka/201520 I encourage you to consult your doctor. Reducing the dose at a later stage of treatment may improve kidney functionality, and it may be necessary to change the medicinal preparation. I also encourage you to report the occurrence of an adverse reaction of the drug. Reporting side effects allows you to increase control over medicines available on the market. We wrote about how and why to report side effects in the article: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/jak-i-dlaczego-zglaszac-dzialania-niepozadane It is not recommended to modify the prescribed treatment yourself. I encourage you to consult a doctor about further therapeutic treatment.
