She suffers from recurrent intimate/urinary tract infections - urine culture is negative, ultrasound is fine. What other tests should I do?

Hello! She has been suffering from recurrent intimate/urinary tract infections for less than 2 years. Since January 1st I have taken 4 antibiotics (Monural, Cipronex, Bactrim forte and Amoksilav) but the infection is not going away permanently. The urologist performed an ultrasound, which did not show anything alarming, while the gynaecologist did not see anything calm in the genital tract. The urine test is worrisome, while the urine culture is negative. What tests should I do?

If urine cultures and genital tract swabs do not indicate the presence of pathogens (bacteria, protozoa), there is no reason to use antibiotic therapy. Disturbing test results may be due to other reasons - specific information should be provided by the doctor when evaluating the test. If the infection recurs, it is worth performing culture tests again at the time of exacerbation; You can also ask for a referral for a complete blood count. It is worth taking care of taking in the right amount of water, using underwear with a natural composition (e.g. cotton), avoiding irritating washing liquids, etc.

If you have any doubts, I encourage you to take advantage of the teleconsultation with a gynaecologist, available on our website in the e-visit tab:
