Cartexan contains chondroitin sulfate, which is one of the main components of cartilage. The therapeutic effect in patients with osteoarthritis is based on anti-inflammatory action at the cellular level, stimulation of endogenous synthesis of proteoglycans, hyaluronic acid and reduction of catabolic activity of chondrocytes. Clinical studies have shown that the drug relieves or improves symptoms of knee or hip osteoarthritis, such as pain and movement limitations. The effect begins within 6 to 8 weeks of treatment and lasts for 2-3 months after its completion.
Cartexan rarely causes side effects. These include effects such as upper abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhoea, erythema, itchy skin or lumpy skin eruptions. This medicine has not been shown to cause muscle or joint pain.
