Unless the doctor recommends otherwise, we continue breastfeeding only when the drug is completely eliminated. This will continue about 2-3 days after the end of therapy (after taking the last dose). Amoksiklav is a two-component antibiotic (amoxicillin and clavulanic acid). Amoxicillin itself is considered safe during breastfeeding. Clavulanic acid, on the other hand, can pass into breast milk and cause side effects in infants such as anxiety, diarrhea, rashes or constipation. Your doctor may, based on a benefit-risk assessment, decide whether to use the medicine during breastfeeding or to stop breastfeeding while you are taking treatment.
