W większości zaleceń dotyczących pielęgnacji rany pooperacyjnej można znaleźć informacje o tym, że okolice rany należy myć za pomocą hipoalergicznego, bezzapachowego mydła bądź przy użyciu specjalistycznych preparatów do oczyszczania ran.

Jeśli rana goi się bez powikłań, hipoalergiczne mydło ze srebrem koloidalnym będzie odpowiednim środkiem oczyszczającym. Należy jednak zwrócić uwagę na skład danego produktu. Najlepiej sięgnąć po mydło w kostce, zwracając uwagę na to, by w składzie nie było substancji zapachowych (parfum) i silnych środków powierzchniowo czynnych, które mogą powodować podrażnienie skóry (np. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate).
