At the outset, it should be emphasized that Xifaxan (rifaximine) is not a drug used to reduce the volume of the abdomen or improve the appearance of the figure. It is an antibiotic mainly used in the treatment of intestinal infections such as irritable bowel syndrome with a bacterial dominant component (SIBO) and in case of recurrent colitis. With SIBO, most patients show noticeable improvement in abdominal symptoms after 4 weeks of treatment. Similar time to improvement was also reported in patients suffering from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
