How long does the effect of liraglutide (Victoza) last? What happens when I stop taking the medicine?

Good morning, how long does the effect of liraglutide ( Victoza ) last or what disorders can occur in the body after discontinuation of use ? I have surgery planned soon - when should I stop taking the medicine? I would like to add that the operation is planned under anesthesia. Thank you and best regards, Grażyna

The half-life according to the manufacturer's information is about 13 hours. It is assumed that in order to calculate the time after which theoretically there should be no longer a drug in the patient's blood, it is 5 such periods, so in this case about 65 hours, i.e. about 3 days. Please remember, however, that you should inform the staff about all the medicines used and individually agree on how you should prepare for the procedure. After stopping the use of the drug, its effect passes and it may be necessary to re-adapt the body to the drug by using smaller doses - you should determine this with your doctor, because he knows your medical history and the purpose of treatment best. When it comes to disorders after discontinuation of the drug, in the case of type 2 diabetes, the first symptom may be a deterioration in glycemic control.
