Yes, honey can cause allergic reactions in susceptible people. This is associated with admixtures of pollen, insect bodies and fungal spores that may be present in it. The most sensitizing honeys include multifloral and honeydew honeys. The most exposed to the allergenic effects of honey are people who are allergic to plant pollen and fungal spores. Allergies can be evidenced by skin problems (rash, redness), gastrological (diarrhea, abdominal pain) or respiratory problems (shortness of breath, cough, etc.). Some scientific reports speak of strong, life-threatening anaphylactic reactions to honey, but these are very rare cases.
